Photo of the Year 2010 (Part 2)

Happy New Year's Eve everyone! Today I reveal the runner up to the 2010 Photo of the Year at Blue Lion Photos. This photo of a Eurasian Kestrel comes from the Center for Birds of Prey in Awendaw, South Carolina. This individual was being held by its trainer and was clearly eager to fly. I am fond of the depth in this image as you really get a feeling for the leading edge of the wings and how they create lift when the bird flaps its wings.

This image has the distinction of being my first front page photograph as it was featured on the front page of the Moultrie (South Carolina)News in order to promote the visit of Jack Hanna to the Center for Birds of Prey.

In addition, the this image was used by the Visit South website to promote the Center for Birds of Prey. The link to their page is HERE.

Come back tomorrow for the announcement of the 2010 Photo of the Year!

I wish all of you a safe and joyful New Year's Eve celebration!

Thanks for all the kind words! My visits to the Center for Birds of Prey (CBP) have been most fruitful for me photographically. I am headed back to the South Carolina coast this coming June to shoot some lowcountry scenes as well as to revisit the CBP so that I can add to my portfolio of their amazing birds. You can see more of them in my wildlife gallery at http://bluelionphotos.smugmug.com/Animals/Animal-Gallery/8158518_9nF7y

ENJOY & HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hi John,

Its personal choice but I liked this runner up more than the 2010 winner :) Capturing birds with this sharp focus I believe would be more challenging than to capture landscape but these r your captured moments and you r d judge to decide based on wonderful memories of shooting these...

Ankur,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about my choices for the 2010 Photo of the year. My choices for Photo of the year or Photo of the Week on my site are based on the number of views each image receives over the time frame. I do love capturing wildlife a great deal as I feel it is a real challenge as opposed to the different challenge of landscape photography. As a biology teacher I have an affinity for capturing animals and the bulk of my images tend to be animals.

Thanks again for your thoughts & Happy New Year!
