The Fires of Mordor

I took this image near Queenstown, New Zealand looking across Lake Wakatipu  toward the Remarkables mountain range. The sky was not looking favorable for much of a sunset shot and then a break in the clouds allowed me to see the front of the Remarkables bathed in the last light sandwiched between the lower clouds and a fog bank just above the lake surface. I named this shot "The Fires of Mordor" as it had the foreboding feeling straight out of the Lord of the Rings books.

  8. Took my breath away! It does indeed look as if it came straight out of a fantasy book. How awesome that you not only got to see it in real life, but captured it so magnificently!

  12. John.. of course you need to be there to get the shot, however you then need to execute it... this is stunning.

Could be a long time until you get another chance for the elements to cast that little bit of magic for a moment or two.
