I took this image near Queenstown, New Zealand looking across Lake Wakatipu toward the Remarkables mountain range. The sky was not looking favorable for much of a sunset shot and then a break in the clouds allowed me to see the front of the Remarkables bathed in the last light sandwiched between the lower clouds and a fog bank just above the lake surface. I named this shot "The Fires of Mordor" as it had the foreboding feeling straight out of the Lord of the Rings books.

A very beautiful and foreboding shot... Just pulls you in and you want to hear a haunting story, and feel the goosebumbs running up your arms... Love a picture that does something to the emotions. You got it here.
Whoa! Glad you captured the moment.
Lot of mystery there.
Stunning shot, rightly named.
Gorgeous tones, composition, and light.
Wow - this is stunning!
a perfect composition with the clouds round the mountains in the sun. Must be wonderful to experience "live". Thanks for showing!

Amazing shot!
Took my breath away! It does indeed look as if it came straight out of a fantasy book. How awesome that you not only got to see it in real life, but captured it so magnificently!
Awesome!

hot damn look at that! hardly looks real- talk about some perfect timing on your part - very cool!
"Remarkables"is the right word here. Incredible, one of the best mountain photos I've seen. Mordor, indeed!
John.. of course you need to be there to get the shot, however you then need to execute it... this is stunning.
Could be a long time until you get another chance for the elements to cast that little bit of magic for a moment or two.

That's an incredible picture, and aptly titled too, you can easily imagine some terrible creatures following the clouds!
